Work Trip Grants
NOTE: All regular work trip grants for 2009 have been allocated. However, some funds are available for hurricane, tornado and flood recovery work trips, and the Printable Application Form should be used. Already, applications for 2010 funds are being received. WOC does have a suggested deadline of December the year prior.
The purpose of Work Trip Grants is to encourage and support participation of groups from Disciples congregations, regions, and other related organizations in volunteer, hands-on mission and service opportunities. These grants enable Week of Compassion to fulfill further its purpose as the channel for the resources of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in providing ready and compassionate response to human need as a result of natural disaster, poverty, hunger, injustice, war, political and economic upheaval and other crises.
How to receive a Work Trip Grant:
- Contact and coordinate with Disciples Volunteering for projects within the U.S. and Canada.
- Contact and coordinate with the Division of Overseas Ministries for projects outside the U.S. and Canada.
- Complete and send the application to Week of Compassion that includes information about the nature of the project, date of the project, number of participants, name of sponsoring congregation or body, and a brief statement as to how the project is seen as an extension of Week of Compassion’s purpose and priorities.
- When possible, applications for Work Trip grants should be made to the WOC Office by December of the year prior to the trip.
Priority will be given to projects that are both coordinated with Office of Disciples Volunteering and/or Division of Overseas Ministries and connected to Disciples partners. Priority will also be given to projects that have not received a grant in the previous three years.
Grants will normally be made for up to $500 for domestic trips and up to $1000 for overseas trips. Grants will be directed to the sponsoring congregation, region or other Disciples related organization. Grants should normally be used for materials and supplies or for financial assistance to persons who otherwise would not be able to participate.
All groups should remember that Week of Compassion funds have been entrusted to Week of Compassion to use wisely, responsibly and compassionately to bring help and hope to people severely impacted by disaster, poverty, hunger, and other humanitarian deprivations.
