This year, even as Week of Compassion has brought attention and provided resources to support the work of our partners responding to major humanitarian crises in the world such as the Syrian civil war, the violence in South Sudan and large scale efforts of recovery in the typhoon stricken Philippines and earthquake stricken Haiti, we have also assisted a number of congregations here in North America that have dealt with a wide variety of emergencies in their respective communities.
In the first three months of 2014, WoC has offered assistance to congregations in fifteen states dealing with local disasters ranging from church fires to storm damage, from chemical spills to mudslides, from gas explosions to food shortages - and more. We are grateful for the support of the many Disciples members and congregations who make this partnership of compassion happen - around the world, around the year. Thanks!!
Week of Compassion is delighted to welcome the following congregations into the growing “Circle of Compassion.” In recent weeks First Christian Church, Paris, Tennessee; Mantua Center Christian Church, Mantua, Ohio; First Christian Church, Keokuk, Iowa; University Christian Church, Ft. Worth, Texas; Central Christian Church, Indianapolis, Indiana; Karl Road Christian Church, Columbus, Ohio and First Christian Church, Winder, Georgia have become part of this special effort to strengthen and undergird WoC’s work and witness in the world for generations to come.
