DISASTER SITE LEADERSHIP TRAINING includes two parts – a virtual component and an in-person/on-site component – that build on each other. Both sessions are required to be credentialed as part of the Week of Compassion Core Crew.
This training is for individuals or couples who are willing and able to serve as part of the project leadership team on a domestic rebuild project. Week of Compassion works with local communities to host mixed-skill volunteer groups to repair and rebuild homes after disasters. During this training, leaders will learn to support recovery and become certified to lead onsite projects with Week of Compassion as VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE LEADERS or DISASTER REBUILD LEADERS (see below). |

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE LEADERS
Volunteer Experience Leaders serve on disaster recovery sites coordinated by Week of Compassion, usually for a period of 3 weeks to 3 months (or as an 'as needed' leader, if local to the recovery). Successful Volunteer Experience Leaders have enough 'organizational skills' to help coordinate volunteer logistics and enough 'people skills' to compassionately guide volunteers in educational sessions and faithful conversations.
Primary responsibilities include:
DISASTER REBUILD LEADERS
Disaster Rebuild Leaders serve on disaster recovery sites coordinated by Week of Compassion, usually for a period of 3 weeks to 3 months (or as an 'as needed' leader, if local to the recovery). Successful Disaster Rebuild Leaders have enough 'handy skills' to oversee home repairs and enough 'people skills' to compassionately guide volunteers.
Primary responsibilities include:
Volunteer Experience Leaders serve on disaster recovery sites coordinated by Week of Compassion, usually for a period of 3 weeks to 3 months (or as an 'as needed' leader, if local to the recovery). Successful Volunteer Experience Leaders have enough 'organizational skills' to help coordinate volunteer logistics and enough 'people skills' to compassionately guide volunteers in educational sessions and faithful conversations.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Greeting and orienting volunteer teams
- Liaising between local rebuild partners and volunteer teams
- Guiding volunteer teams in daily reflections
- Leading educational sessions about issues that complicate disaster recovery (e.g. housing affordability)
- Providing hospitality for volunteers
- Promoting a positive work environment that reflects the values of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
DISASTER REBUILD LEADERS
Disaster Rebuild Leaders serve on disaster recovery sites coordinated by Week of Compassion, usually for a period of 3 weeks to 3 months (or as an 'as needed' leader, if local to the recovery). Successful Disaster Rebuild Leaders have enough 'handy skills' to oversee home repairs and enough 'people skills' to compassionately guide volunteers.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Greeting and orienting volunteer teams
- Liaising between local rebuild partners and volunteer teams
- Guiding volunteer teams in home repair work
- Promoting safety on home repair project sites
- Ensuring project sites and materials are prepared for volunteer teams
- Reporting weekly progress
- Promoting a positive work environment that reflects the values of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
We will add more Core Crew roles as needs expand.
