Houston, TXThe Houston area has experienced multiple climate disasters over the last ten years. Eight of them were large enough to receive federal disaster declarations including a derecho windstorm and a hurricane both in 2024. Numerous localized and smaller-scale disasters, such as severe storms, power outages, and industrial accidents have intensified the need for assistance. Week of Compassion continues to support recovery efforts with long-standing partner, The Restoration Team. Together, we will participate in this year's Disciples Week - Day of Service on Saturday, September 12 to help bring hope to families affected by disaster. We will be helping to repair a home as part of TRT Second Serve Saturday, a monthly day of volunteering. -- No experience is necessary, experienced leads will be on-site to teach you! -- Minors must be accompanied by an adult. --Start time is 9am - Cleanup starts at 2pm -- Bring your own lunch, work gloves, water, safety glasses, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. All links and instructions will be provided in a confirmation email. St Louis, MOThe second week of May 2025, an EF3 tornado swept through the St. Louis area. In the following weeks, the same area experienced severe storms and flooding. These back to back disasters caused widespread damage, and claimed the life of a pillar in the community of Centennial Christian Church. The community has been working to rebuild, and slowly welcoming volunteers to be a part of the recovery. Week of Compassion continues to support recovery efforts alongside our partner, 314 Oasis. Together, we will participate in this year's Disciples Week - Day of Service on Saturday, September 12 to help bring hope to communities in St Louis.
