southeast Louisiana1/20/2026 Pointe-au-Chien At the request of community leaders, Week of Compassion is partnering with Brethren Disaster Ministries to lead a short-term volunteer site in Pointe-au-Chien, Louisiana. This tribal community was devastated by Hurricane Ida in 2021, when the category 4 hurricane passed directly over the area. Week of Compassion has been partnering with the tribe in various ways over the last six years to support disaster case management and resilient home rebuilding, as part of the broader effort of Rebuilding Pointe au Chien: Protecting Homes, Protecting Environment, Protecting Culture. This winter, Mennonite Disaster Service is building 3 new homes in the community and will be starting 1 additional home. Week of Compassion and BDM will coordinate volunteers to finish the interior of the fourth home. We need semi-skilled and skilled volunteers to serve on this project between April 7 - April 25, 2026. Volunteers can come for whatever period of time they are available within that window. -- minimum age : 18 -- group size : individuals & small groups welcome -- housing : local Baptist church (bunk beds); bring your own bedding and towels -- meals : Some meals will be provided. -- work : will include drywall, flooring, painting, finish carpentry, installation of cabinets and fixtures Comments are closed.
