Resources for Churches

Week of Compassion is here to walk alongside the people and congregations who are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with financial, informational, and relational resources.

As an expression of care from the wider church and an affirmation of our call to bear one another’s burdens, the following grants are available as needs arise following disaster events such as fire, floods, and severe weather and in accompanying communities seeking safety and welcome. To request support, a leader from a local church, Regional Ministry, or Disciples-affiliated ministry will contact the staff team at Week of Compassion.

Domestic Disaster Response

Household Solidarity Grants
Direct support for participants within Disciples of Christ congregations who have experienced damage to their homes or significant financial impact from a disaster event.
(Grants are provided as $250 per household and distributed through the recipient's local church.)

Congregational Solidarity Grants
Resources to help address damage to a Disciples of Christ church building or worshipping community’s property from a disaster event.
(Grants range between $250 and $2000, based on 10% of out-of-pocket expenses. Congregations affiliated with the National Convocation, Obra Hispana, or NAPAD, and new churches qualify for up to $3000 and 20% of expenses.)

Community Support Grants
Support for Disciples of Christ ministries and congregations responding to needs in their wider community following a disaster event – these grants help Disciples help their neighbors.
(Grant amounts, up to $2000, are based on scope of response to support disaster response by the congregation.)

Disaster Equity Grants
Additional Household Solidarity support for Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, and/or Indigenous lay Disciples who have been impacted by disaster events and whose need exceeds the Household Solidarity Grant.
(Grants are $1000 per household and are distributed through the recipient’s local church.)

Immigration and Refugee Response

Supporting Immigrant Communities Grants
Support for Disciples of Christ ministries and congregations responding to needs in their wider community involving immigration and refugee response – these grants help Disciples help their neighbors.
(Grant amounts, up to $2000, are based on scope of response to support immigration and refugee response involving the congregation.)

Equity Grant for Immigrant and Refugee Response
Similar to the Supporting Immigrant Communities grant, this opportunity empowers Disciples of Christ churches associated with National Convocation, Obra Hispana, and NAPAD to continue existing ministries or fund new efforts to support communities including immigrants and refugees.
(Grant amounts, up to $2500, are based on scope of response to support immigration and refugee response involving the congregation.)
