A Week of Compassion named endowment fund is truly a gift that keeps giving.
Under the excellent stewardship of the Christian Church Foundation, an annual distribution from your permanent fund provides a steady source of reliable income for Week of Compassion’s ministry. As you, your family, and others who want to, contribute to the fund over time, it continues to grow - and so does the benefit to Week of Compassion!
This type of support means that we have funds we can count on, readily accessible when the most urgent needs arise. When that happens, whether because of a natural disaster or some other event that causes people to suffer, we have the resources available to respond immediately, and we can also make long-term plans and set priorities for the future.
Establishing a named endowment is not just an opportunity for someone making end of life plans, nor is it just for the wealthy. This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to make a lasting commitment to support and sustain the mission of Week of Compassion.
This is also not just for individual investment. Many congregations have established endowment funds as the physical ministry of their church comes to a close; a gift from the church's assets can create funds that carry the name of their congregation as a legacy well beyond the life of their church itself.
Endowment supporters are recognized in the annual report from the Christian Church Foundation each year and are invited to attend special events and receive updates from the Week of Compassion Executive Director. Contact us, or the Foundation, for more information.

Why start a named endowment fund?
When I started an endowed fund, I was looking for a way to celebrate my ordination into ministry. Yet, as my life has changed so has this fund; it became not just 'my' fund, but 'our' fund. Now the witness of the Week of Compassion Ryan and Suzanne Kerr Motter Fund directly connects the work of Week of Compassion around the world to the everyday love we share in marriage, family, ministry, and life. We're committed to stewarding this fund because we know that its support of Week of Compassion helps our family grow in awareness, in commitment to justice, and in simple practices of mercy every day. That in turn helps our lives change again and again, connecting our family to all the families of the world.

I have always given to the Week of Compassion but a couple of years ago, I discovered that my good friends the Ehrmantrauts have a Week of Compassion Endowment Fund. I know the value to an organization of having endowments from which to draw; so I make use of their endowment and contribute as a way to honor them, and also to donate in another way to Week of Compassion. Endowments undergird the work of WOC and I'm happy to make use of an established fund.

When I joined the team at Harvard Avenue Christian Church in 2012, I was also completing my four year term as a member of the Advisory Committee [now Board of Stewards] of Week of Compassion. It was an instant connection: Harvard Avenue has a deep history of generosity and partnership with Week of Compassion. That fall, as a gift at my installation, the congregation surprised me with the creation of a named fund in the Week of Compassion Endowment. {And in 2021, when Brad Lyons and I got married, we added his name to the fund, and our friends and family contributed to the endowment to celebrate with us!}

Having the experience of serving on the Week of Compassion Board of Stewards has given our family greater insight into the needs of the world. We have witnessed how Disciples are responding to those needs time and time again, and how this ministry provides a responsible and secure way of getting funding where it is most needed and appropriate. An endowment allowed us to be able to give freely at any time of the year, while ensuring the positive work of Week of Compassion is being supported year round. Through our Endowment Fund, we are able to teach our daughter a valuable lesson in mercy, and demonstrate how we are connected to other people all across the world.

We’ve had the chance to see Week of Compassion's impact first hand. Their work makes such a difference in the world and a named endowment is a way to support them now and in the future!
