2 Years in Ukraine2/26/2024 updates from partners on long-term response![]() Saturday February 24 marked two years of war in Ukraine. It also marked two full years of daily response to the needs of thousands of impacted families, along with refugees and displaced persons, both inside Ukraine and in the surrounding nations. Week of Compassion's implementing partners within the ACT Alliance network continue to serve amid the most challenging circumstances. We are grateful to share this glimpse into that ongoing work: ACT Alliance gathered stories and footage from implementing partners to capture the collective humanitarian response as the war in Ukraine begins its third year. Week of Compassion has multiple implementing partners through the ACT Alliance network; several have shared reports, interviews, and updates about their work and projects around Ukraine. We honor their fierce commitment to the long-term response, their unceasing work, and their enduring hope. AIDRom AIDRom Iasi team, together with refugees benefiting from the running projects and NGOs and institutional partners involved in supporting refugees in Ukraine (Bethany, Caritas, Red Cross, CNRR, La răscruce, Save the Children, UNHCR, World Vision), organized a special event on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
In the realm of humanitarian efforts, the challenges we face today are both complex and urgent. To shed light on these pressing issues and chart a course for action, we had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Pablo Zapata, the acting representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Romania, about the current humanitarian landscape, and the importance of public support and understanding for their suffering. CHRISTIAN AIDA deeply personal story from CA's country response director for Ukraine. "The Iryna I saw in the mirror in 2021 wouldn’t recognise the young woman I see looking back at me today. ... I never thought that I would learn the types of weaponry used in modern warfare. Now I know the difference between the motorbike sound of a drone from the missile whistle above my head followed by the clank when it detonates nearby." HUNGARIAN INTERCHURCH AID (HIA) Some may think of the two-year-anniversary a milestone, but having assisted more than 500 thousand Ukrainians in one way or another, we know that the millions of uprooted and war-affected people will need support for years to come. As fatigue grows in the humanitarian world, it is imperative that we continue with our efforts in this prolonged crisis. LUTHERAN WORLD FEDERATION (LWF) From supplying relief food and medicine to refugees across neighboring countries, to rehabilitating schools and setting up heating points in municipalities, The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) humanitarian response in Ukraine has expanded to rehabilitating family apartments, thanks to the sustained support of LWF’s global partners. As the war in Ukraine goes into its third year, 51 organizations that make up the Humanitarian NGO Platform in Ukraine call for all attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure to cease immediately, especially in dense urban areas. Since the start of the war, 10,500 civilians have been killed and almost 15 million are in need of humanitarian aid. Comments are closed.
