Giving Tuesday- COVID-19 Response

5/1/2020

PictureIndicates all Week of Compassion responses to COVID-19. Visit our home page for a map of all 2020 responses.
On Tuesday, May 5, many will participate in a special day of charitable giving known as Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday originally emerged around Thanksgiving as a day of generosity, but this movement is  gaining traction right now because so many ministries and services are being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In a time when the work of serving others is so important, the ministries of so many of our partners become even more vital. The generosity of donors is even more important right now as we seek to serve our neighbors --here, and around the world.

This pandemic is hitting close to home. In the past few weeks, Week of Compassion has distributed financial assistance to some of the most vulnerable families in our Disciples congregations. We also continue to partner with other Disciples ministries to share timely and useful information that will help congregations weather this difficult season, while supporting their members and serving their neighbors.

At the same time, we continue to hear from partners around the world about how the COVID-19 is affecting their work in unprecedented ways. This pandemic affects every area of response supported by Week of Compassion -- from disaster response to refugee assistance and sustainable development projects. All of our partners are adapting in order to continue their vital work, while also responding to the pandemic itself. This means that many are changing their approaches or collaborating in new ways.

Because the challenges of this crisis are so far-reaching, the responses encompass a wide range of work too: some partners are emphasizing communications and raising public awareness, empowering communities to stay healthy; others are focusing on food security; and still others are dealing primarily with WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and public health. Partners who serve refugee and displaced persons are preparing for potential outbreaks in crowded camps with limited access to medical and cleaning supplies.

As our partners around the world adapt the critical work they do, Week of Compassion is committed to  providing support and assistance in making sure that the most vulnerable don’t fall through the cracks. A global pandemic requires a global response, and Week of Compassion is grateful for partners around the world coming together to make a difference-- including each of you.

On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to partner with Week of Compassion and  give to COVID19 Response- enabling Week of Compassion to help vulnerable communities here at home and around the world.

Thank you for your continued faithfulness and generosity to those in need. Together, we can make a difference in countless lives, meeting unprecedented challenges with unprecedented compassion.
