monitoring the Maui fires

8/10/2023

Picturefrom Disciples PSWR - Waiola Church Hall and Lahaina Hongwanji Mission Temple, Maui
from our colleagues in the Disciples Pacific Southwest Region (Facebook, Wednesday August 9 2023):

We pray for the people in Hawaii who are affected by the devastating fires. While our own congregations (on the island of Oahu) are not directly impacted by this disaster, they are preparing and bracing to help possible evacuees from neighboring islands. Please pray, and provide funds to
Week of Compassion (our church-wide relief, refugee, and development mission fund).

Week of Compassion continues to monitor the wildfires in Hawaii. We are in touch with Regional leadership and the local Disciples congregations on the island of O'ahu, as well as with ecumenical partners on the island of Maui, and will respond as needed to support immediate relief and long-term recovery. Gifts can be designated "Hawaii Fires," and 100% will be used to assist affected communities.

Holy one,
our hearts ache for your beloveds on the island of Maui,
as wildfires continue to burn.
Make your presence known among those who have fled,
those who are tending to their neighbors,
and those who are fighting the fires.
Provoke us to compassion - today and always. Amen.
