Storm Season Update5/22/2024 With repeated severe weather and tornadoes across the plains, midwest, and south; flooding and windstorms in Texas; and other weather-related impacts across much of the U.S., the needs of our neighbors are great. Week of Compassion is connecting with Regional and local church leaders in affected areas and working with ecumenical partners to assess damage and coordinate response. YOU can respond and help in a number of ways: >> Solidarity grants are already being issued to assist Disciples who have been affected by or are serving their neighbors after the storms, and conversations are beginning about long-term plans. Individuals and congregations can DESIGNATE GIFTS for ‘US Storms’ to be part of this effort. Go to weekofcompassion.org/give -or- mail to Week of Compassion, POBox 1986, Indianapolis IN 46206.
** Church leaders with congregations that have been affected by or are responding to these events can email Rev. Caroline Hamilton-Arnold, Associate Director for Domestic Disaster Response. >> As storm impacts continue and residents seek resources for recovery, there is a great need for VIRTUAL VOLUNTEERS. With simple training, Crisis Clean-Up puts volunteers to work from home, with just a computer and a phone to connect callers to resources in their area. Go to our Virtual Volunteers page to sign up! >> For those who are LOCAL to the greater HOUSTON area, Week of Compassion partners have been responding to recent floods and will need even more volunteers with these additional storms. Email us for ways to connect. (This is *not* a call for volunteers from outside Southeast Texas.) >> PLAN A WORK TRIP for late summer or early fall to support communities still recovering from previous disasters, or plan to serve in recently-affected areas later this year or in 2025. Go to our Group Volunteers page for ways to connect. Remain steadfast in prayer - for impacted families and communities; for first responders and recovery teams; for churches and volunteers and partners who step in to bring comfort, healing, and tangible hope. We are praying with you and for you, Disciples. Comments are closed.
